Mark Your Calendar: #GivingTuesday is December 3!

At Youth Unlimited Edmonton, we’re gearing up for one of our favourite days of the year #GivingTuesday! This is a day when we join together with people worldwide to celebrate the positive impact of giving, volunteering, and kindness for vulnerable youth in our communities. This year, we’re excited to make even more progress in helping youth who are at-risk, and we hope you’ll be part of it.

With #GivingTuesday less than one month away, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who supports helping those in need in our community. We believe that the youth in our community present the biggest need at this time.

You are helping youth build strong, positive relationships that will help them overcome the many mental health challenges they are facing, largely due to loneliness and isolation. If you haven’t had the chance to give yet, consider participating in our #GivingTuesday campaign to help provide a safe space for kids in need. Our goal is to raise $10,000, and every donation, big or small, brings us closer to that target. By contributing, you become an essential part of this important mission.

Together, we can help them overcome challenges like depression, anxiety, despair, and loneliness, guiding them toward a future filled with potential, belonging, and hope.

Here’s a story about one of the youth you will be supporting:

A year ago, one of our junior high students, Jason, found himself on the fringe of gang involvement, using substances, and frequently facing challenges at home and school. During that time, he shared with our staff a deep desire to find friends who could inspire him to become a better person, clean up his habits, and focus on his studies to achieve his dream of going to university. He knew the changes he needed to make, but he required the support of caring individuals to help him along the way.

Over the past year, Jason has repeatedly reached out to our staff for guidance and support, and he has made tremendous progress. Our team has witnessed him stop using substances, graduate junior high with honors, and enroll in the high school IB program. This summer, he even volunteered at a children’s day camp at a local church. While he has overcome so much in just one year, he will continue to need support as he navigates the new challenges of high school and strives to fulfill his dream of going to university as a young person in the foster care system.

Thank you for being a vital part of our mission! Jason and so many others like him are finding hope in the midst of their struggles.

Warm Regards,

Michele Lloyd
